Sonepur Cattle Fair
30 days
November-December
Sonepur, Bihar
In the month of November-December every year a cattle fair takes place in Sonepur, Bihar. So the site which i selected was the elephant camps located near the Hajipur Sonepur Bridge .
So the intention of my intervention is to enable interaction between the elephants and humans by having a elephant riding program , also to have a cafe in the trees in and experience the trees, The elephants are made to stand 10-15 hours a day which makes the animal very lazy. Elephants have to walk at least 2-3 km per day , but unfortunately they are tied to these spiked chains and made to stand. By having this program elephants can easily walk for at least 3-5 hours a day. This Additionally, the café incorporates passive cooling strategies such as natural ventilation and shading to maintain a comfortable temperature even during the bustling activity of the fair. Large openings in the bamboo structure facilitate airflow, while the tree canopy acts as a natural shade, creating a pleasant atmosphere for patrons.
The café's structural systems prioritize safety and resilience, considering the dynamic environment of the cattle fair. The bamboo framework is reinforced for stability, and the rammed earth wall adds a layer of robustness to the structure. The combination of these materials and systems ensures that the café stands as a durable and sustainable landmark within the lively setting of Sonepur.
